FREE FOR MEMBERS!
Description: Click chemistry is a synthesis philosophy that hinges upon clicking together simple, readily accessible modules by high-yielding, robust reactions that proceed under mild conditions. The objective? To accelerate the discovery of novel molecules with desirable properties, focusing on bioactive compounds for drug development. My research at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory has embodied this objective, seeing me further develop click chemistry (specifically Sulfur Fluoride Exchange or SuFEx) as an indispensable platform for lead discovery and drug optimization.
Date: August 23, 2023
Time: 12pm – 1pm (ET)

Course/Activity Information

At the end of this session you will be able to:

  • Understand the fundamentals of click chemistry, specifically Sulfur Fluoride Exchange (SuFEx)
  • Understand the development of high-throughput SuFEx as a discovery platform for hit identification.
  • Give examples of how click chemistry can be used to optimize both antibiotics and anticancer agents.

Speaker: Josh Homer, PhD

Josh Homer completed his PhD at the University of Auckland (New Zealand) working in natural product total synthesis. He then completed a two-year postdoctoral position at the University of Edinburgh (Scotland, UK) where he explored novel enantioconvergent catalysis methodologies. In 2021, Josh began a second postdoctoral placement at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (USA) in the first chemistry laboratory, where he remains as a Research Investigator applying click chemistry to drug discovery projects related to cancer therapeutics and antibiotics.
