Description: This presentation will review some of the recent strategies used at UHN and across its client network to decompress and or stabilize the laboratorian HHR crisis. From industry integrated learning, existing employee enrichment, and creation of novel role descriptions and scopes, UHN LMP has managed to stay with the pace of change and demand, stemming employee burn out, while simultaneously increasing engagement at a time when workloads could not be higher.

Speaker: Christine Bruce MLT, MHA, CHE
Christine currently serves proudly as the Senior Director for the Laboratory Medicine Program at the University Health Network in Toronto ON.
She is known for finding novel solutions to our laboratory problems and just getting things done. Having held varied positions in the key areas of innovation, operations, quality, and engagement – both employee and partner, her career milestones have been introducing first and largest in Canada platforms from BD Kiestra, Sysmex, and Beckman Coulter, as well as leading the first hospital go live for COVID-19 PCR testing, supporting up to 25% of Ontario’s testing demand at any given time throughout the pandemic.
An MLT since 1997, Christine also holds a Master's in Health Administration, a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, and Research Methods certification. Christine was recently awarded the Gaman J. Modi Award of Excellence, and was nominated for the 2021 Premiers Award for trailblazing Ontario college graduates in Health Sciences. By 2025 she hopes to have completed her Doctorate in Business Administration, with her thesis work focused on the levers of employee engagement in laboratory medicine.
