Description: Blue top citrate tube collection and processing requires all laboratory personnel to follow strict sample protocols for the accurate and timely delivery of life-saving coagulation results. This lecture will provide solutions to some of the commonly encountered difficulties with blue top samples and provide guidance as to how to properly order unfamiliar or ambiguous coagulation test requests, along with current COVID-19 testing recommendations. The target audience for this lecture is Medical Laboratory Assistants and Technologists who perform phlebotomy.

Speaker: Terence Litavec, BSc, MLT, SH(ASCP)
Terence Litavec has worked as a Medical Laboratory Technologist since 2004 and has served as the MLT Director of the BCSLS. He currently works in the Hematology Department at LifeLabs in Burnaby, BC. Before that, he worked at Burnaby Hospital and Kelowna General Hospital, as well as Tacoma General Hospital and PhenoPath Laboratories, both in Washington State. He is certified by both the CSMLS and the ASCP and is a certified Specialist in Hematology and Coagulation. He has always had a passion for teaching and has written and presented numerous educational lectures throughout Canada.
