Description: Featured in the Summer 2022 issue of CJMLS, Dynacare embarked on a two-year journey to introduce full lab automation to its Brampton Microbiology Department. As pressure continues to increase regarding how labs will adapt to the critical shortage of medical laboratory technologists (MLTs) in Canada, WaspLab and the artificial intelligence based customizable software was identified as one possible solution for how to eliminate process steps that do not require expertise only MLTs can provide. This webinar will showcase one Canadian lab’s experience throughout the planning and implementation process and will give listeners an understanding of the potential this technology offers and what interested parties should consider through lessons learned.

Speaker: Leah Brown, BSc, BHSc, MLT

Leah Brown is a registered Medical Laboratory Technologist and a Technical Specialist with Dynacare's Microbiology Department. She has 9 years of experience in the field of Microbiology and during her career she has gained experience in both private and hospital medical laboratories and the research lab environment. 

Leah holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from Dalhousie University in Environmental Science and International Development Studies and a Bachelor of Health Science Degree in Medical Laboratory Science from Ontario Tech University. Her passion is finding or creating innovative solutions that improve the operational efficiencies and quality of the clinical microbiology lab.
