Saturday February 22, 2025 10:00 - 16:00 (ET)
Session 1 - Computers and Chromosomes: A look at new Artificial Intelligence for the Cytogenetics laboratory
Session 2 - Possibilities and Pitfalls of AI in Education
Session 3 - Artificial intelligence in healthcare and laboratory science
Session 4 - Simplifying Lab Processes: A Journey towards Digital Excellence
Session 1 - Computers and Chromosomes: A look at new Artificial Intelligence for the Cytogenetics laboratory
In this session, participants will learn how cytogenetics, a relatively niche discipline of laboratory science will leap forward into a new age of computer technology. Attendees will learn how the karyotype affects clinical diagnostic practices and how it has evolved in a modern setting. Delving into the use of complex deep neural network Al tech, this presentation aims to show how this new form of karyotyping not only reduces turnaround times but also enables a better and more sophisticated approach to identifying aberrations in the human genome at the chromosome level.
Learning Outcomes:
Speaker: Andrew Leone, MLT
Andrew has been a medical laboratory technologist since 2017, where he began his career as a blood banker. In 2019 he completed a second certification in cytogenetics. He currently works at the McGill University Health Center in a cytogenetics lab where he studies chromosomes and DNA. Andrew has also participated in CSMLS initiatives such as the indigo lab coat campaign and is acting chair of the Content Advisory Committee
Session 2 - Possibilities and Pitfalls of AI in Education
This session explores the transformative role of artificial intelligence (AI) in medical laboratory education. Attendees will discover how educators and students are leveraging AI for personalized learning, virtual simulations, and administrative efficiency. The session will also address critical challenges, including data privacy, algorithmic bias, and academic integrity concerns. Through real-world examples and interactive discussions, participants will gain insights into best practices for integrating AI responsibly and ethically in healthcare education. By the end, attendees will be equipped with practical strategies and resources to harness the potential of AI while navigating its complexities in their teaching practices.
Learning Outcomes:
Speaker: Brady Rose, BSc, MLT
Over the last few years, while balancing being a parent, spouse, MLT educator (at NAIT) and an individual Brady has made an effort to learn about self-care. She attempts to put these lessons into practice and now considers herself a recovering perfectionist.
Session 3 - Artificial intelligence in healthcare and laboratory science
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is changing healthcare by helping doctors and hospitals work better. AI can quickly analyze medical information to help diagnose diseases, suggest treatments, and even predict health problems before they happen. This technology makes healthcare more efficient, improves patient care, and can lower costs by making processes faster and more accurate.
Learning Outcomes:
Speaker: Dr. Nasir Jamali
As a seasoned medical doctor and researcher, Dr. Nasir brings over two decades of rich experience in clinical practice and medical research. His journey spans across continents, contributing to groundbreaking research in renowned institutions such as McGill University and SUNY Brooklyn. USA;
His current role as a self-employed Medical Advisor, allows him to leverage his diverse expertise to provide strategic health management solutions and deliver impactful training and presentations to global audiences. He is the developer of an AI-powered Medical Assistant, designed to enhance clinical decision-making and patient engagement
