No longer a feature of science fiction, AI is here to stay. It is already transforming industries across the board and healthcare is no exception. This webinar will briefly unpack the core mechanisms of AI and contextualize its foray into lab diagnostics. It will present examples of its applications in the labs and discuss its benefits as well as challenges. Final part of the webinar will briefly discuss the social concerns around the complex relationships between humans and AI.

Speaker: Kinga Kowalewska-Grochowska, MD FRCPC
Dr Kowalewska-Grochowska is a laboratory physician specializing in microbiology and parasitology. Kinga obtained her MD degree in Warsaw Poland and further specialized in laboratory medicine in London UK; years later she emigrated to Canada where she obtained her Canadian credentials and specialized in medical microbiology.
Dr Kowalewska-Grochowska currently works as a medical microbiologist at Alberta Precision Laboratories and Provincial Lab of Public Health and Associate Professor, Dept of Medical Microbiology and Immunology, University of Alberta.
Her passion is medical parasitology and entomology, teaching and utilization of multimodal and multimedia technologies in education.
