Description: Want to improve lab utilization? This presentation highlights the 14 CSMLS and University of Alberta recommendations developed for Choosing Wisely Canada through collaboration with subject matter experts. These recommendations can help promote the effective use of lab resources and lead to real change. Accompanying tools have also been developed and recently improved upon (The Widget), including a cost savings calculator to quantify financial and environmental benefits of resource optimization. We also have a searchable bilingual database of relevant lab recommendations and best practices. Together we can make sustainable changes that support our workforce and operational efficiency.

Speakers: Dr. Amanda VanSpronsen and Dr. Brandon Djukic

Amanda VanSpronsen is an associate professor in medical laboratory science at the University of Alberta, and her research interests include MLT professional development and appropriate laboratory utilization.

Brandon Djukic has been the CSMLS researcher since joining the organization in 2020. He holds a Bachelor of Science and Doctorate of Philosophy in chemistry. He is an experienced data analyst, and enjoys providing CSMLS with objective analyses regarding all matters of concern to the organization’s members.
