Medical laboratory science students complete part of their education at an accredited clinical placement site. The clinical instructor supervises students daily during their clinical practicum. Training for lab instructors is essential for student’s success. This session focuses on equipping clinical professionals with the skills and knowledge needed to effectively mentor students during their placements. This session will emphasize the mentor’s role in fostering professional growth, providing constructive feedback, and supporting the development of critical thinking and ethical clinical decision-making skills. Participants will learn effective communication strategies, methods to create a positive learning environment, and techniques to navigate common mentorship challenges.

At the end of this webinar you will be able to:

1. Define the key responsibilities and expectations of a mentor in guiding and supervising students during clinical placements.
2. Recognize common challenges in mentoring students, such as differing expectations or learning styles, and develop strategies for overcoming them.
3. Create a positive work environment for students by ensuring they feel welcomed, supported, nurture student confidence and professional identity.
